Discover Purpose and Adventure in Chitral
Nestled in the remote, mountainous heart of northwest Pakistan, Chitral offers a rare glimpse into a culture and landscape few international travelers have seen. By volunteering with Chitral Rising or staying in our library guesthouses, you’ll experience the beauty of this extraordinary region while making a meaningful impact. Help us create lasting change in a community that welcomes your involvement. Here’s how to get involved:
Base yourself at our guesthouse.
Whether you’re traveling to Chitral from elsewhere in Pakistan or coming from abroad, we invite you to stay at Chitral Rising’s guesthouse in Booni, Upper Chitral. Nestled next door to our first library, Fikr Khana, the guesthouse is an ideal base for exploring the stunning landscapes of Upper Chitral. You’ll be a short drive from the breathtaking Qaqlasht and Shepeshun meadows, and close to unique valleys and villages like Garam Cheshma, the Kalash Valleys, Phander, Shandur Pass, and more. Your stay directly supports our libraries and the communities we serve, allowing you to contribute to lasting change while enjoying an authentic experience of Chitral.

Join one of our tours.
Join our exclusive guided tours and get up close with Chitrali life and culture. You’ll have the chance to explore remote villages, attend the Shandur Polo Festival with the polo stars themselves, or ride horseback through stunning landscapes. Along the way, you’ll visit our libraries, where you’ll definitely want to stop by for the only real coffee in all of Chitral (we coffee lovers are an anomaly in Pakistan). Plus, every tour directly supports Chitral Rising’s mission, making your adventure an impactful one for the local community.
Volunteer your time and skills.
Skilled volunteers in fields such as healthcare, education, digital marketing, and videography are highly valued and encouraged to join Chitral Rising. As a token of our appreciation, we offer free accommodation and meals at our guesthouse, along with discounted tours to explore Chitral. Volunteers can also participate in our flood relief efforts from June to September, rebuilding and providing support to displaced families. Your expertise and time will directly strengthen our mission, leaving a meaningful and lasting impact on the local community.

Visit and engage with our libraries.
Visit our library to experience a blend of learning, culture, and community. Browse our books, engage with our cultural preservation program, or join a thought-provoking event. While you’re here, stay at our guesthouse and unwind at our nightly fireside gathering to connect with locals. Our libraries welcome everyone, including non-readers, and offer a perfect base for remote workers seeking both productivity and community.
