Libraries

Our next-gen libraries spark dialogue,
fuel learning, and build self-reliance.

How We Serve Our Community

Chitral Rising libraries are purposefully built to:

Harness technology to empower learning

Powered by AI, the Chitral Rising learning app customizes learning paths to maximize engagement, comprehension, and peer-driven skill-building.

Facilitate dialogue & critical thinking

Our libraries host debates, talks, and discussions that encourage open dialogue and challenge perspectives, fostering deeper understanding and independent thought.

Promote health literacy & self-care

Through our health programs, we teach essential skills like cancer self-screening and responsible antibiotic use, enabling individuals to take ownership of their health.

Empower women & minorities as leaders

Our leadership programs provide the skills, confidence, and mentorship necessary for women and minorities to become impactful community leaders.

Create entrepreneurial connections

We connect aspiring entrepreneurs with local mentors and partners through our app ecosystem, supporting the growth of Chitrali businesses.

Preserve cultural heritage

Our cultural preservation programs safeguard Chitral’s tribal languages, traditions, and history, using education and events to keep these alive for future generations.

Support mental health & build connections

We offer mental health support, including group sessions and safe spaces for girls and mothers to connect, talk, and build supportive relationships.

Offer daycare to improve accessibility

Our library offers daycare spaces, enabling mothers to access educational resources while their children are cared for.

Equip locals with tools for success

We provide the resources, mentorship, and guidance that empower locals to confidently pursue their learning and career paths.

Provide essential community resources

We provide scholarships, clean water, free hygiene products, and a warm refuge in winter. During floods, our library becomes a safe haven, offering shelter, food, and vital resources for those in need.

Why Booni?

We're creating Fikr Khana, Chitral's first library, in Booni. Here’s why:

Booni, home to 18,000 people, is the heart of Upper Chitral, known for its diverse ethnic and religious communities, schools, and role as a gateway to Northern Pakistan for tourists. Nearly 30% of residents live below the poverty line, a challenge made worse by the increasing threat of annual floods. As a vital connection to remote villages near the Afghan border, Booni is an ideal location for a library that will empower both the town and its surrounding communities.

What’s at stake in Chitral matters for the whole world.
Final Steps, Future Plans

Chitral’s next chapter is almost here.

We’re in the final stretch: Fikr Khana is nearly ready, but we still need resources to open its doors. At the same time, we’re preparing to bring libraries to two more underserved villages.
